What is Micro-needling ?

CIT or micro-needling is a gentle resurfacing procedure that creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin.

This in turn triggers the body’s spontaneous healing process stimulating cell regeneration and causing the production of new collagen and elastin.

Results: A plump, youthful, radiant complexion and visibly younger looking skin!

Benefits:

Clinically proven to:

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Help with crepey skin by addressing skin volume.
  • Improve the appearance of scars (acne, surgical, or trauma).
  • Minimize enlarged pores.
  • Minimize scars and stretch marks.

After a series of treatments you can expect to see a significant improvement in skin tone and texture. For enhanced results, micro-needling therapies may also be combined with topical growth factors derived from your own blood, also known as PRP.

It’s also considered to be safe and effective for most skin types.

Contraindications:

  • Are pregnant or trying to be pregnant.
  • Are breastfeeding.
  • Have pre-existing skin diseases, psoriasis or eczema.
  • Have a severe sunburn.
  • Have a pimple or an acne problem.
  • Have broken skin or an open wound.
  • Have an active cold sore.
  • Have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease like lupus.
  • Have undergone radiation therapy / chemotherapy in the recent months. Please discuss in detail with the Registered Nurse.
  • Have diabetes of any kind. Please discuss further with Registered Nurse.
  • History of poor healing.

These conditions already make your skin sensitive and vulnerable and therefore impedes its natural healing ability. When you have pimples or active infection, micro-needling can spread the acne and disease-causing bacteria in other areas and further exacerbate it.

If you fall under these categories, micro-needling may not be for you. Book a consultation to see what could be right for you !

Treatment Areas

Micro-needling may be performed anywhere on the face or body. It is frequently used in the facial area to target acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

What to Expect

During the initial consultation, how to prepare for your micro-needling treatment will be discussed. These may include but is not limited to:

  • Discontinue topical beauty or skincare products containing Retin A, retinol, or vitamin A for a week before treatment.
  • Wear sunscreen at all times to protect your skin from sunburn and inflammation.
  • Use only gentle skincare products approved by your skin care consultant.

We want your skin calm and clear on your treatment day.

Treatment

Come to clinic with a clean face if possible.
Your skin will be cleansed and prepped.

A numbing cream will be applied for 15 minutes and then thoroughly cleansed and prepped. A hyaluronic acid serum will be applied to your skin
The micro-needling device is motorized with a sterile tip containing very fine needles. The depth of the treatment will be determined by which skin concerns are being targeted. You will feel a rubbing, vibrating sensation as the sterile needles create tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, triggering your body to produce new collagen and elastin.

Each treatment takes approximately 45 minutes. After the treatment a hyaluronic acid infused mask will be applied and your provider will apply the appropriate post-treatment products and provide you with post-treatment instructions.

Aftercare and Recovery

Some patients may experience skin redness or sensitivity after the treatment, which is normal and should resolve in hours or days. Other patients may experience no redness whatsoever. Most patients return to routine activities immediately after the treatment.

Get the most out of your micro-needling treatment with these aftercare tips.

Follow skin care regime as outlined by your provider.

  • Do not use makeup x 48 hours.
  • No sunscreen x 48 hours so try stay indoors for the next 48 hours as much as possible. Your treated skin is still photosensitive, and exposure to ultraviolet light can be damaging for you.
  • Do not use tanning beds or spray tans, which also exposes your skin to harmful UV light.
  • Refrain from exercising or doing any strenuous activity within the first 72 hours of treatment. Exerting effort and sweating out can irritate the skin, which is still raw. Gyms are also notorious for being hotspots for bacteria, which can infect your skin.
  • Refrain from extreme heat, sauna or swimming and hot tubs x 48 hours . These activities put you at risk of irritation, inflammation, or infection due to sweating and the harsh chemicals in most pools.
  • Steer clear of alcohol-based toners for up to 14 days after micro-needling treatment.

Results You Can Expect

After micro-needling, your skin cells begin to work overtime to produce new cells. Many patients notice an immediate glow in their skin after their first micro-needling treatment.

Within 4-6 weeks, you may see visible improvements in fine lines and pore size as the skin’s epidermis thickens. Improvement in scars may continue up to two years post-treatment, as new and healthy tissue is developed continuously.

More dramatic effects become more noticeable as you continue with the recommended series of treatments. Expect to see a smoother skin texture and even skin tone as your skin exfoliates optimally.

Potential Complications

Micro-needling is generally a minimally invasive and safe cosmetic treatment. However, as with any procedure, complications are rare but possible.

After the procedure, it’s normal to see redness in the treated area, which typically resolves within 2-3 days. Please report increasing redness, irritation and fever which could be signs of infection. Contact the clinic immediately.

Why eDermaStamp® ?

* It’s Certified Medical-Grade .Equipment

The eDermaStamp® is ISO13485 certified (certified medical device), meeting all standards for medical-grade equipment in manufacturing, materials, sterile packaging and more.

* Safest Micro-Needles

The medical-grade micro-needles of the eDermaStamp® are atraumatic (non-traumatic) cone-shaped needles that displace the skin during the puncture process, creating a micro-wound that seals within minutes of treatment. Poorer quality roller devices are made with knife-shaped needles that slice through tissue and risk causing traumatic skin, vessel and nerve damage. Poor quality needles also require increased pressure, making for a more painful treatment.

*Fastest Motor on the Market

At 150 strokes per second (the fastest on the market!) the eDermaStamp® can safely glide over the skin without scratching or tearing the skin. Poor quality micro-needling pens which operate at a slower insertion rate (100 to 120 strokes per second) can cause scratches and micro-tears in the tissue as the tip moves across the face. The result can be increased epidermal damage and increased risk of infection.

*Non Ablative

Where other scar and anti-aging treatments are ablative (destroying tissue), the eDermaStamp® respects the integrity of the epidermis and dermis, using atraumatic (non-traumatic) perforations to gently trigger the generation of new tissue.

*Optimal Needle Count

Don’t be mislead by imitation rollers that boast “the most needles”. Though we want to maximize the number of perforations, too many needles compromises the safety and comfort of the treatment. Imagine a bed of nails: while a bed of nails can easily support your body weight without a nail perforating your skin, a single nail would easily penetrate your skin under the same pressure. Similarly, a roller with too many needles will require dangerous and uncomfortable amounts of pressure in order to penetrate the skin to the appropriate depth. The eDermaStamp® employs the optimal number of needles to maximize effectiveness, safety and comfort.

*Electric vs. Battery

The eDermaStamp® is built for consistency. As an electric device, it outputs consistent power which means consistent performance. A battery operated device outputs inconsistent power. As the battery starts to wear out, the tip will slow down and the results can be unwanted micro tears and scratching of the skin.

*Licensed by Health Canada

The eDermaStamp® is licensed by Health Canada. There are countless imitation products on the market that are not licensed by Health Canada so we recommend you do your research, to protect your health and safety.
