IPL (INTENSE PULSE LIGHT)

What is IPL?

IPL is also known as Photofacial.

IPL is a type of light therapy used to treat wrinkles, freckles, sun damage, and age spots.

IPL can also treat vascular lesions, facial telangiectasia (broken blood vessels) and rosacea.

IPL can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are areas that are regularly exposed to the sun such as the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.

At Mezzmerize we offer Lumecca™

Why Lumecca™?

Lumecca ™ is a breakthrough Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) that delivers up to 3X more energy to improve pigmentation and damage caused by the sun’s harsh rays.

High efficiency of treatment due to high peak power and optimized output which means fewer sessions.

Reduction in length of treatment time (large spot size and high pulse repetition rate with Lumecca™). Complete photo rejuvenation in 1 -3 treatments for most patients versus 4-6 treatments with other standard IPL’s. IPL treatments spaced out every  4 weeks.

Strong sapphire cooling tip results in higher treatment comfort.

Pre-treatment

Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning/self tanners x 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Avoid retinols x 1 week.

No aspirin, ibuprofen x 1 week.

No  Accutane x 6 months.

Further pre-treatment details will be discussed at your consult.

What to expect/downtime

You will be required to wear IPL eye shields . Your provider will be wearing IPL safety glasses.

During treatment there will be a bright flash of light and with each pulse you will feel a light elastic sensation.

A sensation of a mild sunburn (pink/redness and a slight warming of the skin) is normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour.

Peeling, perhaps mild swelling may last a 1-2 days after treatment with some patients.

After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

While there is no real downtime, there will be darkening of the areas treated with Lumecca™ and will eventually fade in a few days. It usually just lasts up to a maximum of 3 days and will eventually flake off.

All potential side effects will be discussed at your consult.

Post Care

It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning x 4 weeks.

SPF will be applied after your treatment.

Further post treatment care will be discussed at your consult.

Are IPL results permanent?

The IPL Photofacial treatment will permanently remove dark spots from the skin with minimal to no side effects. … While results are permanent for existing skin concerns, that does not mean that dark marks or freckles will not return in the future if left un-protected from the sun.
